The Imetrum story

Researchers at Bristol University had been struggling with getting the measurement data that they needed, particularly around understanding bridge movement, and measuring strains on composite materials. With existing measurement technologies not being quite up to the mark, effort was put into trying to deliver step-changes in the speed, resolution and accuracy of measurements taken using video cameras.

The results were promising, and this new video-based measurement technology immediately facilitated advances in composite materials, and a deeper understanding of structural dynamics.

It was clear that these developments in video-based measurement technology had rapidly delivered significant benefits to the end users. Those involved in developing the technology experienced great pleasure and satisfaction from helping to overcome the problems and challenges faced by the end users. This made them keen to continue developing the technology and motivated them to form Imetrum in order to make the technology available to anyone who could benefit from it.

Imetrum continues to be motivated by a desire to make easy to use, elegant solutions to measurement challenges widely available. This means that we carry slightly different motivations from many commercial organisations. We will always try to:
